truth study center
truth study center is Wolfgang Tillmans’s 2005 book for Taschen, in which his photographs sit beside fully abstract pictures.
Taschen published it as a 220-page paperback, 22.5 by 30 cm, with texts by Minoru Shimizu and Tillmans in English, German and French. It is the third of four Tillmans books from the publisher, after Wolfgang Tillmans (1995) and Burg (1998) and before Neue Welt (2012). Taschen describes the images here as more subtle in composition than in the earlier volumes. The sequencing is part of the work: an essay in the catalogue for his 2006 American survey singles out a run of fifteen pages of abstractions that follows a series of portraits and gives way to a black-and-white section on a young soldier.
Tillmans was born in Remscheid in 1968 and studied at Bournemouth and Poole College of Art and Design. He won the Turner Prize in 2000 and lives and works in Berlin and London.
