Wolfgang Tillmans: Serpentine Gallery
Wolfgang Tillmans: Serpentine Gallery is the catalogue for the artist's survey exhibition at the Serpentine Gallery, London, which ran from 25 June to 18 September 2010.
Koenig Books published the 128-page paperback with the Serpentine Gallery. It carries texts by Michael Bracewell and Josef Strau, plus an interview with Tillmans by Hans Ulrich Obrist and Julia Peyton-Jones. It documents the installation Tillmans built through the gallery's rooms: framed and unframed prints, tables of small pictures, and abstract works hung together at mixed scales. This non-hierarchical hang has defined his exhibition-making since the 1990s.
The show came a decade after Tillmans won the Turner Prize in 2000. He was the first photographer, and the first non-British artist, to win it. It stands as one of his most prominent London presentations from that period. The collection also holds the brochure from his Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool showing, which opened the day before this exhibition closed.
