Zachęta Ermutigung
Zachęta Ermutigung ("Encouragement") is the two-volume catalogue for Wolfgang Tillmans's exhibition at the Zachęta National Gallery of Art, Warsaw. The show ran from 18 November 2011 to 28 January 2012, then travelled to the Kunstsammlung Nordrhein-Westfalen, Düsseldorf.
The publication splits into a Werke (Works) volume and a Texte (Texts) volume. The works volume includes photographs Tillmans made in Warsaw in April 2011 ahead of the show, shown alongside the installation's other pictures.
The Warsaw and Düsseldorf presentation came a decade after Tillmans's 2000 Turner Prize, the first awarded to a photographer and to a non-British artist. It sits in the same run of major European shows as the collection's Serpentine Gallery and Walker Art Gallery catalogues from the year before.
