About Esopus

Founded by Tod Lippy in 2003, Esopus was a twice-yearly arts magazine that ran for 25 issues until 2018. The publication distinguished itself by featuring contemporary artists' projects with minimal editorial framing and no advertising, allowing artists to present their work directly to readers.

Each issue included personal essays, artist portfolios, short plays, visual essays, interviews, poetry, and fiction. Regular series included "Modern Artifacts," "Guarded Opinions," and "Public Access," with each issue concluding with a themed audio compilation on CD.
