Wade Guyton im Josef Alpers Museum
"Rise of the Printers," the fuller title behind this catalogue entry, documents Wade Guyton's exhibition at the Josef Albers Museum Quadrat Bottrop, Germany, on view November 23, 2014 through February 15, 2015.
Four new paintings Guyton made for the show were installed alongside the museum's Albers collection. American science-fiction writer Mark von Schlegell contributes the accompanying text, reading Guyton's inkjet-printed canvases as both building on and challenging Albers's own exploration of minimalist visual language and ideas of authorship. Published by Verlag der Buchhandlung Walther König / Koenig Books, softcover, 142 pages.
Guyton (b. 1972, New York) is known for paintings made by running canvas through a desktop inkjet printer, letting the machine's misprints and glitches stand as the finished work; this show placed that practice inside the museum built around Albers, one of the artists most associated with rigorous, systematic abstraction.
