Wade Guyton, Seth Price, Josh Smith, Kelley Walker

This exhibition catalog documents Wade Guyton, Seth Price, Josh Smith, Kelley Walker's 2007 group show at Kunsthalle Zürich, an early survey of four artists whose work reshaped ideas of authorship, appropriation, and process in painting after 2000.

Published by Kunsthalle Zürich in 2007 as a 192-page softcover in English and German, with a red handprint stamped across its cover, the book reproduces the four artists' paintings, sculptures, and printed works as installed for curator Beatrix Ruf's exhibition, alongside an essay by writer and dealer John Kelsey.

Guyton, Price, Smith, and Walker emerged together from New York's early-2000s gallery scene — Guyton and Walker for their inkjet- and screen-printed canvases, Price for his vacuum-formed reliefs and internet-derived imagery, Smith for his loose, repeated self-portrait paintings — and this show remains a touchstone reference point for their generation's rethinking of painting through mechanical reproduction.
