Wade Guyton: Zeichnungen von Drama und Frühstück im Atelier

by Wade Guyton
Verlag der Buchhandlung Walther Konig · 2017 · Softcover (flexi)

Zeichnungen von Drama und Frühstück im Atelier documents an exhibition at Museum Brandhorst in Munich, extending Wade Guyton's ongoing Zeichnungen (drawings) series of artist publications built entirely from the debris of his own studio floor.

The book gathers book pages, photographs, bitmap files and screen captures that had piled up on the floor of Guyton's studio, run through the same industrial inkjet printers he uses to make his large linen paintings. Presented for the exhibition, which ran from 28 January to 30 April 2017, the pages read as a single continuous sequence rather than a conventional catalogue of works. It was published as a 130-page softcover ("flexi") volume by Verlag der Buchhandlung Walther König.

Guyton has spent two decades feeding raw canvas and paper through Epson printers to make paintings that register the machine's own drips, banding and misregistration as much as the source imagery. The Zeichnungen series translates that same process onto the printed page, a body of work later anthologized in Wade Guyton: Two Decades MCMXCIX-MMXIX (2022) and shown at institutions including the Serpentine Galleries and the Punta della Dogana.
