Lozano c. 1962 looks at a single year of Lee Lozano's painting and reproduces thirty-one small canvases from it.

Karma, New York published the 96-page clothbound book in an edition of 1,000, with texts by Helen Molesworth and Bob Nickas. It accompanied an exhibition at Karma's Manhattan bookshop and gallery space. Some of the paintings measure only 3 1/4 by 2 3/4 inches. Many show faces, penises and airplanes, and a long nose shaped like a penis recurs, a motif Nickas takes up in his essay. He describes the work as a mix of Abstract Expressionism's figurative disfiguration after de Kooning, Pop comic rendering, Surrealism, and a cubism that is circular rather than faceted.

Lozano (1930-1999) worked in New York from 1961 to 1971, after studying at the Art Institute of Chicago. Her work went from gestural and hard-edge figuration through abstraction to conceptual pieces built on tasks. By 1972 she had left the art world. She moved to Dallas and kept to the boycott of women she had begun in 1971.
