Private Book 6
Private Book 6 is the sixth volume in Karma's facsimile series of Lee Lozano's pocket notebooks, and it includes her plan for how to invite people to her opening at the Whitney.
Karma published it in 2019 as a 118-page spiral-bound paperback, 5 by 3 inches, printed in colour in an edition of 3,000. The D.A.P. listing quotes one entry in which Lozano says she wants to invite, personally, only the neighbourhood people she knows from drugstores, food and laundry stores and stationery shops.
Karma says the eleven surviving notebooks date from 1968 to 1970 and that Lozano edited them in 1972, which completed the project. She was a painter (1930–99) who lived in SoHo when she kept them, and the entries mix notes on her work, exchanges with artist friends and commentary on gender politics.
