Neo Rauch & Rosa Loy: Hinter Den Gärten/Behind the Gardens
Hinter den Gärten / Behind the Gardens documents the first joint exhibition by the German painters Neo Rauch and Rosa Loy, who have been married since 1985, held at the Essl Museum outside Vienna in 2011.
Published by Prestel in Munich to accompany the exhibition, which ran at the Essl Museum in Klosterneuburg from September 2 to November 16, 2011, the bilingual German/English catalogue runs 259 pages with color illustrations, edited by Günther Oberhollenzer with texts including an interview by Karlheinz Essl. Rauch and Loy curated the show themselves.
Rauch's paintings draw on advertising graphics, the aesthetics of comedy, and theatre; Loy's explore what the catalogue describes as the mystery of woman, a new femininity, and a new romanticism. Prestel had published an earlier survey of Rauch's drawings, Schilfland, in 2009.
