Neo Rauch
Neo Rauch is the catalogue of the artist's fourth solo exhibition at David Zwirner in New York, held in 2008 and devoted to new paintings.
David Zwirner published it with Steidl as a 44-page hardcover with 17 colour reproductions, measuring 21 by 24.8 cm. Christian Viveros-Fauné, an art critic, wrote the text. The paintings in the show feature a cast of characters that runs from sturdy women workers to dandified men in topcoats. One of them, Parabel (2008), depicts a fallen painter with a noose tied from his neck to a blank canvas.
Rauch was born in Leipzig in 1960. The gallery's earlier solo shows of his work in New York came in 2000, 2002 and 2005, and its artist biography lists a solo exhibition at The Metropolitan Museum of Art in 2007, the year before this catalogue. His first major museum survey followed in 2010, shown at the Museum der Bildenden Künste Leipzig and the Pinakothek der Moderne in Munich.
