Neo Rauch Bonnefanten Museum

by Neo Rauch
Hatje Cantz · 2002

Neo Rauch, edited by the Bonnefantenmuseum in Maastricht and published by Hatje Cantz, is the catalogue issued in 2002 when Rauch received The Vincent, the Vincent van Gogh Bi-annual Award for Contemporary Art.

The book reproduces 65 paintings made between 1993 and 2002 and was published on the occasion of the award. Daniel Birnbaum, Lynne Cooke and Harald Szeemann contribute texts, in German and English. It is a 144-page paperback of June 2002, with 66 illustrations, measuring 25 by 28 cm.

Rauch was born in Leipzig in 1960. The Bonnefantenmuseum gave him a solo exhibition in 2002, the year of the award. The publisher describes his pictures as at once unsettling and familiar, built from formulaic pictorial signs that suggest a deeper meaning and are hard to decipher.
